Fans of gripping legal thrillers and emotional romances, rejoice! While You Were Sleeping, the 2017 hit that captivated audiences with its blend of mystery, fantasy, and heartfelt storytelling, officially returns with Season 2 in 2025.

Starring Bae Suzy and Lee Jong Suk, the new season is set to build on the powerful chemistry and suspenseful storytelling of the original, while introducing new characters, twisted timelines, and an even higher emotional toll.

In Season 1, broadcast journalist Nam Hong Joo (Suzy) and prosecutor Jung Jae Chan (Lee Jong Suk) teamed up to prevent crimes before they happened—all thanks to their mysterious shared ability to see the future through dreams.

The series ended with a satisfying conclusion: justice served, romance blooming, and fate seemingly rewritten. But fate, as we’ll soon find out, has a way of rebalancing itself.

Set six years after the events of Season 1, Season 2 follows a more mature, battle-hardened Nam Hong Joo and Jung Jae Chan. Now parents to a daughter, their lives are finally peaceful—until the dreams return.

But this time, they’re not the only ones seeing the future.

Enter a new villain, a mysterious man named Seo Gun Woo (played by Wi Ha Joon), who also sees glimpses of fate—and uses his dreams not to prevent tragedies, but to commit perfect crimes.

As bodies begin to pile up with no traceable leads, Hong Joo and Jae Chan realize their dreams are part of a new, darker puzzle. But instead of seeing just one future, they begin seeing multiple possibilities, and not all of them end well.

Meanwhile, their daughter—Yoo Rin, now seven—starts having visions of her own. Is it inherited? And what happens when a child begins dreaming of disasters they don’t understand?

The couple must now balance family, career, justice, and fate—all while dealing with a criminal mastermind who’s always one step ahead.

  • Suzy as Nam Hong Joo

  • Lee Jong Suk as Jung Jae Chan

  • Kim Won Hae as Prosecutor Lee

  • Park Jin Joo as Hong Joo’s best friend

  • Lee Yoo Bi as fellow reporter Yoon Jae

  • Wi Ha Joon as Seo Gun Woo – The dream-seeing antagonist

  • Kim Tae Ri as Detective Cha Min Ji – Tasked with connecting the dots between dreamers

  • Kim Se Jeong as rookie prosecutor with prophetic nightmares

  • Moon Woo Jin as child version of future Hong Joo’s daughter Yoo Rin (in flashbacks)

  • Fate vs Free Will: A stronger exploration of whether people can truly change destiny—or if doing so only causes another tragedy.

  • The Psychology of Guilt: Dreams that go wrong; lives not saved.

  • The Burden of Knowing: How much pain comes from seeing the future, especially when you're powerless to stop it?

The tone remains emotionally gripping, but Season 2 leans further into psychological thriller territory, with fewer comedy elements and deeper ethical questions.

  • Director: Oh Choong-hwan (returning)

  • Screenwriter: Park Hye-ryun (returning)

  • Episodes: 16

  • Runtime: 70 minutes per episode

  • Platform: SBS & Netflix (confirmed)

  • Expected Release: November 2025

Filming began in March 2025 and wrapped up in July. Teasers are expected to drop by September.

Following its announcement, hashtags like #WhileYouWereSleeping2, #SuzyAndLJSReturn, and #DreamFate2025 began trending globally on Twitter and Weibo.

The series already has international deals with Netflix and Viu, cementing its place as one of the most anticipated Korean drama sequels of the year.

As Hong Joo and Jae Chan confront their darkest dreams yet, fans are already speculating whether Season 2 will break hearts or offer redemption.

One thing’s for sure: this season isn’t just about stopping the future—it’s about understanding why we dream it.
