Son Suk Ku to Take Long Hiatus After Back-to-Back Hits “It’s Time for Something New”

Top Korean actor Son Suk Ku has announced plans to take an extended hiatus after completing his current filming commitments. In a recent interview with Sports Seoul, the actor opened up about his decision to slow down after an impressive streak of hit dramas and films.

From gripping thrillers like The Outlaws 2, D.P., and A Killer Paradox, to emotional masterpieces like My Liberation Notes and the ensemble drama The Comments Army, Son has been consistently active and admired by both fans and critics. With upcoming titles Heaven Is More Beautiful and The Ninth Puzzle on the way, he has firmly established himself as one of Korea’s top talents.

“I used to chase project after project,” he shared. “But now, I want to focus on deeper, more meaningful work.” The actor also emphasized the mental and emotional demands of producing so many high-level performances, stating it was time to recharge and explore new creative directions.

In The Ninth Puzzle, his latest project for Disney+, Son plays detective Kim Han Saem, a complex character who straddles the line between logic and emotion. It’s a striking contrast from his role as Jang Nam Gam in Netflix’s A Killer Paradox, showing his range and dedication to his craft.

Son Suk Ku also praised the cast of his past projects and spoke fondly of veteran actress Kim Hye Ja, his co-star in Heaven Is More Beautiful, calling her a source of inspiration.

Despite stepping back from acting for now, Son isn’t slowing down creatively. He revealed he is working on a screenplay during his break, aiming to challenge himself in new ways. “Whether they liked my work or not, if people watched, they’re my supporters. This break is for discovering something different.”
