WWE referees are an essential part of the wrestling industry. They are responsible for ensuring that the matches are fair, safe, and entertaining. But did you know that there are many secrets about WWE referees that you probably didn't know? Today we will uncover 10 hidden secrets you didn't know about WWE referees…

1.   Referees may not be aware of the pre-planned result:

In today's world of the Internet and the Wrestling Community, many people know that WWE is planned ahead of time. People think that the wrestlers and the referee already know who will win the match before it even starts, but this is not always true. Such a case happened during the Brock Lesnar-Undertaker match at WrestleMania XXX when Chad Patton was the referee. Despite being an official, he didn't know who would win beforehand! He was just told to count when needed. As The Streak had a big part in that year’s WrestleMania, WWE couldn’t afford to involve anymore people to know the result.

2.   The Referee Can Be Overridden by the Timekeeper:

During a SummerSlam event, something interesting happened. It was the time when the referee was not paying attention and didn't see The Undertaker tapping! However, the timekeeper, who was sitting close to the ring, saw The Undertaker tapping and rang the bell without the referee's approval! This had never happened before and is considered one of the strangest endings to a WWE match. This was a big match, and it was supposed to be too big for WrestleMania. This incident sparked a lot of controversy and discussion among fans and experts in the wrestling community as its not completely wrong but almost never happens.

3.   Action Figures of WWE Referees:

Earl Hebner, one of the most famous referees in WWE history, made history when he became the first referee to have an action figure created in his image. He is controversial because he was the referee during the Infamous Montreal Screwjob. He was also the first referee to be included as a playable character in a video game called WWE No Mercy. No other referees have been given this honor, but some wrestlers like Trish Stratus and Shawn Michaels had action figures made of them wearing referee outfits from famous WWE storylines.

4.   They Also have Wellness Policy:

Some people might be surprised to learn that WWE officials, just like the wrestlers, are expected to follow the company's wellness policy. This means they have to go through regular physicals and drug tests to make sure they haven't taken any banned substances! Substance abuse and steroids have been a problem in WWE, so the company added officials to the policy to help control it. Mike Chioda is the only referee known to have been suspended for violating this policy.

5.   No Female Referees:

It may come as a shock, but all of WWE's referees are men, despite the increase in female participation in sports in recent years! The most well-known female referee was Rita Marie, who worked for WWE in the 1980s. Since she left the company, no other long-term female referees have been hired in WWE. Some female wrestlers, such as Trish Stratus, Lita, AJ Lee, Brie and Nikki Bella, and Alicia Fox, have served as special guest referees, but WWE still hasn't had a female referee as a regular part of the team.

6.   Referees Have to Communicate in Backstage:

WWE officials wear earpieces that enable them to communicate with wrestlers. They can also talk to the Chairman and COO, informing them of any legitimate injuries during the match or any changes to the planned outcome. This allows all parties to be aware of the intended outcome. Additionally, it enables backstage decisions to be made during the match, so the referee can relay the information to the wrestlers.

7.   Referees Can be in the Storyline Too:

You would be surprised to know, occasionally referees are incorporated into WWE storylines and given characters! For example, Brad Maddox was portrayed as a heel after he attacked Ryback, who was a face at the time. Another example is Scott Armstrong, who was involved in Daniel Bryan's feud with The Authority after he made a fast count during a world title match. Later on, Scott betrayed Daniel and was the main reason he was stripped of the world title. As a result, Triple H "suspended" him.

8.   They are Paid a Lot:

Not only WWE wrestlers are rich but also the referees can be in that league! Would you believe it? Some of the most senior WWE officials earn a weekly salary of around $2,500! Referees are also expected to participate in storylines and take bumps in the ring, so this pay is considered fair. However, newer referees who don't work throughout the week may only earn $1,500, which many are unhappy about. Referees who work at the main events and pay-per-views can earn up to $5,000 for just a few hours of work. Do you also want to be a referee now?

9.   Their Works can be Even Harder Sometimes:

In addition to memorizing the rules and their role in the match, referees also play a crucial part in the storytelling aspect of WWE matches. They are expected to work closely with the wrestlers to ensure that the match runs smoothly and that the audience is fully engaged in the storyline being presented. Referees must be able to quickly adapt to changes in the script or unexpected developments in the ring. They must also have excellent communication skills, as they need to relay information and cues to the wrestlers in real-time. So, the role of a WWE referee is a challenging one that requires a great deal of skill, experience, and dedication.

10.               Sometimes They Can Disqualify Wrestlers:

WWE officials would sometimes enforce rules and disqualify wrestlers even if it wasn't part of the storyline. He claimed that if a referee was counting to five before disqualifying a wrestler, the referee could disqualify them and receive praise backstage for doing their job properly, while the wrestler would be told to learn the rules better. This information has not been confirmed by anyone within WWE but insiders revealed the fact about the referee's power within a match.
