1.   Referees may not be aware of the pre-planned result:

In today's world of the Internet and the Wrestling Community, many people know that WWE is planned ahead of time. People think that the wrestlers and the referee already know who will win the match before it even starts, but this is not always true. Such a case happened during the Brock Lesnar-Undertaker match at WrestleMania XXX when Chad Patton was the referee. Despite being an official, he didn't know who would win beforehand! He was just told to count when needed. As The Streak had a big part in that year’s WrestleMania, WWE couldn’t afford to involve anymore people to know the result.

2.   The Referee Can Be Overridden by the Timekeeper:

During a SummerSlam event, something interesting happened. It was the time when the referee was not paying attention and didn't see The Undertaker tapping! However, the timekeeper, who was sitting close to the ring, saw The Undertaker tapping and rang the bell without the referee's approval!
