The 27-year-old actress Kim Se Joeng was born on 28 August 1996 in Gimje, North Jeolla Province. But her parents were not on good terms and soon they got divorced. But after that, their lives became too hard. She did not even meet her father until she was in the middle school. Her mother took both her children, Kim Se Jeong and her elder brother, with her and moved to Anyang, Gyeonggi to start a new life as a single mother. 

During her childhood, Kim Se Jeong saw her mother doing every kind of job for their sake which saddened her heart a lot. At the same time, her mother became a big inspiration for her to do something in the future. Surprisingly, she never chose to do any 9 to 5 job but chose to do something she really loves and has talent in. Since childhood, she became someone who is strong enough to do track and field and talented enough to do acting and music in theatres. Thus, she flourished in her career in her own way step by step. 

Kim’s first entry in front of the camera took place when she participated in the second season of the show called ‘K-pop Star’ at the age of 16. In 2016, she participated in the survival reality show ‘Produce 101’ under Jellyfish Entertainment. She stayed in the show till the end gaining the 2nd highest votes and officially debuted with the girl group I.O.I. in the same year. But their run came to an end in the following year. 

Her breakthrough came in the music industry when she participated in Jellyfish Entertainment's music channel project Jelly Box and released the single "Flower Way" that she dedicated to her mother. With this heartfelt song, she promised to create a flowery path for her mother from then on, and fortunately, she really kept her promise!

After gaining tremendous success with her first solo song, in 2017, she made another song, "If Only" as the soundtrack of The Legend of the Blue Sea, starring Lee Min Ho and Jun Ju Hyun. Her singing career peaked throughout this year with many successful solo songs and collaborations like "I Like You, I Don't", and "Star Blossom". She starred in her first major role in 2017 in the drama School 2017 and received success. This year she also participated in shows like ‘Busted’, ‘Get It Beauty’, ‘Baek Jong-won’s Alley Restaurant’ and so on. 

Next year, she formed Gugudan SeMiNa with her fellow Produce 101 members Mina and Nayoungand and released ‘Semina’ as their debut single. She also sang the Mr. Sunshine OST ‘Paramour’. 

Kim Se Jeong took her second leading role in the drama I Wanna Hear Your Song in 2019. This time, she won the K-Drama Hallyu Star Award at the 2019 KBS Drama Awards for her performance as a timpanist with memory loss. Following a year-long hiatus as a singer, she returned with the single "Tunnel" in collaboration with Dingo Music in December 2019. Then she released her first self-written and composed EP titled "Plant" in March 2020. 

In 2020, Kim also showcased her versatility by venturing into musical theater with her debut in "Return: The Promise of the Day". Then she starred in her first breakthrough drama, The Uncanny Counter. She also contributed to its OST with a self-composed song. 

In March 2021, she released her second self-written and composed EP, "I'm”. This year, she again appeared in a feminist musical drama set in the Victorian era, "Red Book" which earned her critical acclaim and a Best New Musical Actress nomination at the 2022 Korean Musical Awards.

In 2022, she took on the lead role in the SBS romantic comedy Business Proposal alongside Ahn Hyo-seop. It became the first Korean-made TV series to rank No. 1 on the official viewership chart of Netflix. It was also marked on Netflix's Most Popular Non-English Shows for 2022. Kim’s performance received praise from critics and fans from all over the world which solidified her position in the K-drama industry. After this tremendous success, she starred in another SBS Drama Today's Webtoon.

In July 2023, she returned to the small screen with The Uncanny Counter 2: Counter Punch, reprising her role as Do Ha-na which is creating more waves in the K-drama world. This year, she also announced her first solo concert tour across 10 countries, starting in Seoul on September 23 and 24! She is releasing her highly anticipated first full-length album "Door" this September which indicates her continuous growth in the entertainment industry. But her journey is really remarkable. Only hard work and love for her mother took her to this level and opened a door to unlimited possibilities. She wants to make a home for her mother soon. The tough past of Kim Se Jeong has made her strong, calculative about money, and future-oriented so that her mother never suffers in the future. She is truly an inspiration to many.
